Datasets* are built using publicly available data disclosed by hospitals across the United States in compliance with the machine-readable file requirement of the CMS Hospital Price Transparency Regulation (45 CFR §180.50). You can find out more information about this regulation from CMS here.

The Turquoise Health Price Transparency Scorecard ranks the completeness of a hospital’s machine-readable file (MRF), ultimately generating a transparency score of 1-5 stars. Using over sixty pieces of information to evaluate a hospital's MRF, scoring is algorithm-driven, with no preferences given to any hospital. Hospitals can use this score as a proxy to assess compliance and compare their MRF attributes to hospitals of relative size and type.
In this dataset, you will find each hospital’s name, medicare ID, type of hospital, and overall MRF transparency score bundled together.
Turquoise Health internally has over 1B records of never-before-seen provider rates. In this particular dataset, you will find the facility fee portion for a curated list of shoppable services mandated for disclosure by CMS. It includes some discounted cash prices and negotiated rates paid by third party payers, and some ancillary charges associated with the primary service. This data does not include the professional fees associated with the hospital service provided.
Effective July 1st, 2022, payers were required by the federal government to publish in-network negotiated rates for healthcare services with all providers. This dataset contains a subset of professional fee in-network rates for a small selection of commercial payers.
